Building on progress: VP Capital pursues B Corp recertification

Since earning B Corp certification in 2022, VP Capital has been a proud member of the B Corp community. To us, being a B Corp means being part of a global movement to use “business as a force for good”. We see B Corp certification as recognition of our impact because it is based on a holistic assessment - the full social and environmental impact rather than a single business aspect.

As part of the B Corp commitment, companies are required to recertify every three years to ensure they remain focused on continuous progress and improvement. VP Capital is now engaged in this recertification process, with the results expected by May 2025.

We’re confident that we will successfully renew our certification for the next three years and hope to improve on our previous score,” shares Project Manager Sustainability Mark Schravesande. “While exceeding the minimum threshold of 80 points is the primary objective, for us, the score also reflects how much progress we’ve made and serves as a benchmark for our journey.”

Over the past three years, the VP Capital team has worked hard to enhance our organisation with the goal of increasing our impact. Examples of key improvements include:

  • Enhanced HR processes: Incorporating sustainability aspects into job profiles and employee reviews, introducing a vitality programme, and implementing a bicycle plan for employees.

  • Refined investment processes: Implementing an impact-first strategy and defining our impact focus and criteria more precisely.

  • Strengthened engagement efforts: Reshaping our processes for engagement with our portfolio companies, with an emphasis on climate, biodiversity and social equality.

  • Implementing small but meaningful changes: Including increasing our donation budget, introducing a volunteer day, developing a diversity policy, and further tightening our governance practices.

We believe we have taken a positive step forward. The B Corp assessment has been an invaluable tool for identifying areas of growth and inspiring new initiatives. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and eager to see it reflected in our next B Corp score,” Mark adds.
