We at VP Capital see the media as an important investment domain given how critical a safe, transparent, honest and sustainable media landscape is to our society, our democracy and to safeguarding the truth.
In addition to the direct and indirect investments we make and will continue to make in this domain, our goal is also to make targeted donations that can make a positive contribution to overcoming its key challenges.

On the left are the key challenges of the Media domain listed. Possible solutions where our donations can make a difference:
- NGOs dedicated to the role of watchdog, who campaign to improve regulation of the industry
- Initiatives aimed at boosting the capacity of both journalists and consumers to check the veracity of information through enhanced literacy
- Digital products for children that boost media literacy amongst young people, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds

Together with the independent professional impact organisation Telos impact, we’ve compiled a shortlist of worthwhile causes that make a tangible contribution to overcoming the key challenges facing the media of tomorrow. The selection is based on extensive due diligence and a thorough analysis of such criteria as impact, management & governance, finance, operations and the organisation’s general action plan. This exercise is performed every year to determine which organisation or organisations make the most significant contribution.

For the Media investment domain, we have chosen the charity Bellingcat. Bellingcat was given the highest score amongst media-related initiatives by Telos and is aimed at countering the general lack of confidence and political interference in the media.

Bellingcat
Bellingcat is an independent international association of researchers and journalists that uses open source and social media to investigate a wide range of subjects ranging from Mexican drug lords and crimes against humanity to the use of chemical weapons and conflicts worldwide. With members active in over 20 countries around the world, the organisation occupies the uniquely uncharted territory where advanced technology, forensic investigation, journalism, research, transparency and justification come together.
