Within the Energy investment domain, VP Capital believes that the transition from a carbon-intensive energy system to a robustly sustainable energy system is of crucial importance. It’s the reason why we have made multiple direct and indirect investments in this domain and have the ambition to invest even more in sustainable solutions that will drive the energy transition forward. In addition to those investments, VP Capital also endeavours to make targeted donations that will help overcome the key challenges facing this domain.

On the left are the key challenges of the Energy domain listed. Possible solutions where our donations can make a difference:
- NGOs dedicated to boosting access to (renewable) energy for isolated communities
- Organisations that provide reliable energy for essential buildings such as hospitals
- Initiatives that support the transition to renewable sources of energy by gradually reducing the dependence on infrastructure and vehicles that use fossil fuels

Together with the independent professional impact organisation Telos impact, we’ve compiled a shortlist of worthwhile causes that make a tangible contribution to overcoming the key challenges facing the energy transition. The selection is based on extensive due diligence and a thorough analysis of such criteria as impact, management & governance, finance, operations and the organisation’s general action plan.
This exercise is performed every year to determine which organisation or organisations make the most significant contribution.

Within the domain Energy, we have selected the Papillon Project. Aimed at helping to make renewable energy accessible to everyone, this project earned the highest score in Telos’ screening.

Papillon project
Papillon helps families in financial difficulty replace their old household appliances that consume too much energy with new, energy-efficient ones. The project is a partnership between a social player (Samenlevingsopbouw West-Vlaanderen) and a commercial player (Bosch Belgium). The solution consists of a circular, product-as-a-service or rental concept with a clear social mission.
